Cheshire’s First Congregational Church, 111 Church Dr., will offer a multi-faith back-to-school “Blessing of the Backpacks” on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. in front of the church on the green in the center of town.
All are welcome to attend, especially students, teachers, school staff, and caregivers. Light refreshments will follow.
“Backpacks are our children’s constant companions as they go about their school days,” says the Rev. Dr. James Campbell, First Congregational’s senior minister. “The start of a new school year is an important milestone in a child’s life. We will ask that the backpacks be strong for their job, that their burden be light, and that the children be strong and confident, grow in kindness and compassion, and learn new things.”
Blessings will also be offered for all those who care for our children.
Those who don’t have a backpack or school bag are also welcome to attend and receive a blessing. Parking will be available behind the church. Inclement weather will move the event indoors. For more information, call the church office at (203) 271-5323.
