This year marks the 18th and final year for the Cheshire’s Lights of Hope luminary lighting tradition. The event is set for Saturday, Nov. 12. Organizers are calling it the “Grand Finale.”
The first order of business is the recruitment of street captains, whose work is a vital component of the event. Over the past 17 years, many residents have volunteered as street captains to distribute flyers to their neighbors with information about the event. Then they take orders for the luminary kits and collect the $12 for each kit, which contains 10 candles, cups, and paper bags.
After collecting the orders and contributions for their street, the captains forward the orders to the committee. When the orders are delivered, the street captains distribute the kits and the sand to the neighbors who have purchased them.
Also, LOH is seeking sponsors for the event. Last year, 60 businesses and professionals sponsored the luminary display, one of the highlights of the Lights of Hope. Such continued support is needed from sponsors and the community.
The luminary purchases are not the only way to support the event. Funding and in-kind donations are also needed for other expenses associated with this massive undertaking that enables neighbors to help neighbors.
Three levels of Sponsor participation are available: Platinum at $1,000 each; Gold at $500 each; Silver at $250 each; and Friends and in-kind at $250 each.
