Cheshire’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced that it will not be holding its traditional holiday tree lighting ceremony this year, due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Held annually on the first Sunday in December, the ceremony has traditionally attracted a large crowd who sing Christmas carols and partake in hot chocolate.
While there will be no gathering, Parks and Recreation will stream the lighting of the tree on Facebook and their YouTube channel. The winner of the annual Cheshire Junior Women’s Club Holiday Essay Contest will also be invited to help light the tree, and Parks and Rec confirms that Santa is scheduled to drop in.
No official time or date has been set, and Parks and Rec asks those interested to continue checking their social media sites for updates.
