Scavenger Hunt Set To “Light” Up Cheshire

In light of the current circumstances, the First Congregational Church will not be hosting their annual Christmas Fair. Hoping to provide some Christmas excitement for all community members in a different way during this COVID-19 year, First Congregational Church will “Light Up The Season” with a town wide candle scavenger hunt from Nov. 29 to Dec. 24.

All are invited to participate.

During those four weeks, First Church parishioners will display special 6-foot-high candles in the yards of their homes. “Clues” to the location of these candles will be given on the church website (https://www.firstcheshire.org/candles). Paper copies will also be available outside the front of the church. Each candle will have a different “word of the season” with it; searchers will submit lists of these words to the church, either electronically or at the church.

Correct answers will be put into a drawing for prizes, including gift cards to local restaurants and stores. A handful of winners will also choose from a list of 10 local nonprofits to receive a seasonal donation, in each winner’s name, courtesy of the church.

The church invites the community to celebrate the season at a weekly Advent candle lighting on the Church Green as well as a Christmas Eve “Journey to Bethlehem” event, also on the Green. The church plans to host its Christmas Fair in 2021 for the entire community to enjoy.
