Test Your Doll Design Skills In Special Challenge

Test Your Doll Design Skills In Special Challenge

Artsplace, The Friends of CPFA/Artsplace, Inc. and the Cheshire Public Library are sponsoring a design challenge. Inspired by the popular reality television show “Project Runway,” this contest is scaled for Barbie/Ken sized dolls of 14” or smaller.  Participants will be divided by ages into three groups—4-9 years, 10-15 years, and 16 years to adult—and will be challenged to design clothes/costumes to transform a doll.

Answer the 4 Challenges below by submitting emailed photos by deadlines to win a prize. Register early to take part in all four challenges.

Challenge 1:  “I’m Dressed and Ready to GO, but WHERE?”  Create the ultimate summer outfit for a day at (you decide). Deadline for Challenge 1 submission is Aug. 16.

Challenge 2: “Unconventional Challenge.”  Create an outfit using recycled materials to clothe any warrior, wizard or princess.  Deadline for Challenge 2 submission is Aug. 30.

Challenge 3: “Dress a recognizable character.” Go wild with creativity from your favorite book, cartoon, song, painting or movie. Deadline for Challenge 3 submission is Sept. 13.

Challenge 4: “Design a Halloween outfit.” Scary or silly, complete this final challenge with fun and originality. Deadline for Challenge 4 submission is Oct. 4.

To register, call Artsplace Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at (203) 272-2787. To view the rules, visit the Artsplace website www.artsplacecheshirect.org.  Registration is first-come, first-served.

Registration of $15 includes one doll to be used for all challenges and a box of fabric and adornments. Participants may use their own doll if desired (not to exceed 14” in height), or if the Artsplace supply of 75 dolls is depleted. Regardless of whether using an Artsplace doll or your own, a $15 registration fee is required.  If one requests the doll/fabric to be mailed, an additional fee of $10 is required for USPS expected delivery of 7-10 days.

Once registered, a pick-up time will be arranged upstairs at Artsplace (Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) to choose a doll and box of supplies. Selection will take place upstairs in a safe, socially distanced manner. Remember to wear masks.

To enter a challenge, you must email photos by the submission dates above.

Winners in each age group will receive a $25 gift certificate awarded in each challenge. The grand prize winner will receive a $100 gift certificate.  All correctly-submitted entry photos will be seen online in the “Runway Show” on the Cheshire Public Library website, www.cheshirelibrary.org.
