The Cheshire Recreation Department offers Therapeutic Recreation for youth, teens, and young adults with various physical, intellectual, social and/or emotional difficulties. Activities are broken down into smaller components more easily understood by participants. Children can practice social skills, as well as form and maintain friendships in a safe environment with staff gently guiding them.
The programs are develop and implemented with support. Activities include cooking, dance, movement, “Afternoon Club,” sports, summer camps, yoga, Special Olympics and much more. Activities improve and expose participants to social experiences, fun activities, improvde health, and make participants happy, proud and confident. Staff is experienced with special needs and loves spending time with the children.

Mentors needed for Therapeutic Recreation Summer Camps
The TR Summer Camps need teen volunteers to work one week, minimum, at camp from June 29 to August 7, 11:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with special need campers. The volunteers provide good role models, support and encourage campers, and add a lot of fun to camp. It’s a great way to get volunteer hours and a meaningful way to give back to the community.
This is a perfect opportunity for youth prior to working. Contact Barbara Costello at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested or have questions. Applications can be found at cheshirect.org/parkrec.
