Beauty Spot Of The Month Abloom With Summer Perennials

The Civics Committee of the Cheshire Garden Club has selected the Residential Beauty Spot of the Month for July and determined the front property of Dave Beckerman as the winner. A 33-year resident at condominium #30 in Quarry Village, Dave has created a diversity of summer-flowering perennials that is absolutely astounding.

A smaller flowerbed toward the front is ablaze with orange- and red-colored Zinnias on one side and yellow Argyranthemum daisies and Coreopsis verticillata ‘Zagreb’ on the opposite side. Tall Oriental lilies will soon burst into bloom. Groupings of small orange and red Marigolds occupy the area closest to the ground all around this flowerbed.

The large flowerbed at the center is truly gorgeous. A stand of white Shasta Daisies stands tall next to Echinacea purpura (purple coneflowers) and smaller Hemerocallis d’oro (daylilies) in both deep red and yellow colors. Interspersed are very tall orange and yellow Zinnias. Smaller Marigold annuals as well as ceramic animal statuaries occupy the area near the ground. Just finishing their bloom are Phlox and blue Hydrangeas. A huge stand of tall Lilium orientalis ‘Stargazer’ off to the left side will give added color to this beautiful flower bed.

A third area near the front entrance features an eye-catching Hydrangea bush with huge pink as well as blue blossoms. A couple of colorful hanging baskets close to the front door complement this beautiful front yard.
