The Cheshire Memorial Day Parade Planning Committee has announced that, because of predicted weather conditions for Sunday afternoon, the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on the Green, scheduled for 1 p.m. today, May 30, has been canceled.
Parade Marshal John White of VFW Post 10052 explained, "The heavy rainfall predicted for (Sunday) would prevent the Town from setting up an electrically powered loudspeaker system to be used by members of the ceremony. It is also likely to reduce audience size to small numbers."
The decision to cancel the ceremony was made jointly between the Cheshire Veterans Council and Town of Cheshire officials.
However, White added, the motorcade of vehicles carrying veterans around town will be held as planned because the vehicles will be closed to bad weather. The motorcade will leave from the Green at 1:30 p.m.
