Flu Clinic – Monday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Cheshire Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave., with Chesprocott Health District. For an appointment, call (203) 272-8286.

Save the Date! Bake & Tag Sale – Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., indoors. Donations for the Tag Sale will be accepted starting on Monday, Oct. 3. Donations of baked goods are welcome and can be dropped off on Friday, Oct. 21, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. or on Saturday, Oct. 22, by 10 a.m.

Afternoon Movie Matinee: “Elvis” – Today, Sept. 29, at 12:30 p.m. (note early start time). This 2022 film depicts the life of music icon Elvis Presley from his childhood to his becoming a rock and movie star in the 1950s while maintaining a complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Stars Tom Hanks, Austin Butler and Olivia DeJonge. Rated PG-13 (2 hours, 39 minutes). Registration is required.

A Pathway through Grief – Thursdays, through Nov. 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Senior Center. This eight-week program is for those who have lost a loved one or dear friend and afford them the opportunity to share and discuss issues of greatest concern, to help participants understand their emotions and problems and cope within mainstream society, to support and comfort those who have shared the same experiences. “The Addams Family”: A New Musical Comedy – Sunday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. See the Landmark Theatre production at the Thomaston Opera House. Cost is $26 per person, payable to the Cheshire Senior Center by cash or check. Transportation is available upon request; $3 fee is payable to the driver. Register by Tuesday, Sept. 6.

 

Weekly Programs

Move & Groove Workout – Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Drop-ins are welcome at this low-impact DVD exercise class.

Technology Help – Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Jared from the Cheshire Library returns to the Senior Center to help with computer/tablet/cellphone technology questions.

Bridge – Fridays at 12:30 p.m. Prior to game play, there will be a discussion on the best way to accommodate extra players going forward.

Nickel, Nickel – Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. Playing fee is 11 nickels and one quarter per person, per week.

Golf Card Game – Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on the lower level. Weekly fee to play is $3.

Walking Group – Walking is a wonderful way for older adults to stay physically and mentally active. Call Marge at (203) 272-3316 for more information about her walking group.

Transportation Services

Call Coleen in the Transportation Office at (203) 272-0047 for information and reservations.

With COVID-19 precautions in place, transportation is available for medical appointments in the service area, grocery shopping, pharmacy, visits to the Cheshire Senior Center, and personal appointments based on availability. Masks are required on all public transportation, including Senior Center minibuses.

Ride requests are accepted two weeks in advance. Any request made after 11 a.m. the day before the ride is needed is subject to availability.

Bus drivers accept cash donations each time a rider steps on the bus. Suggested donation is $1 each way for in-town rides, and $6 round trip for out-of-town appointments.

Schedule for Out-of-Town Medical Appointments:

Monday – Meriden

Tuesday – North Haven and Hamden

Wednesday – Wallingford

Thursday – New Haven

Friday – Southington

Ride requests are accepted for appointments between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Dial-A-Ride is available on Fridays for the Waterbury area.

GWTD Dial-A-Ride:

Residents of any of the seven municipalities in the Greater Waterbury Transit District (GWTD) may use the Dial-A-Ride service, free of charge. Service is limited to a particular day of the week for each municipality due to limited resources. Dial-A-Ride serves Cheshire on Fridays.

To be eligible to use the GWTD Dial-A-Ride Transportation Service, a rider must be:

•60 years of age or older OR

•a person with a disability AND

•a resident of Cheshire, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Waterbury, Watertown, or Wolcott.

An application must be filled out and returned to the designated address to begin use of the GWTD Dial-A-Ride services. Applications may be obtained by calling the Cheshire Senior Center Transportation Office at (203) 272-0047. 

Reservations must be made at least two days and up to 14 days before each trip. Riders may call the phone number on their ID card between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, to schedule a trip.
