The Cheshire Senior Center, 340 Maple Ave., currently remains closed, but will continue to offer programs via Zoom as well as a few outdoor activities, as listed below:

It’s Uber Easy – Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. Join via Zoom for a talk on navigating ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Lyft. Reminder: Only those who own smart phones can download the apps. Sit Down Online with Stefanie – Thursday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. During  this “informal” online Zoom meeting, Stefanie hopes to answer any questions regarding the Senior Center. Call (203) 272-8286 or email lgravel@cheshirect.org to register.

Cheshire Readers Book Club – Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 10:45 a.m. Online via Zoom. Please read: “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult. To register, call (203) 272-8286 with your email.

Lawn Games with Laura – Tuesdays, Sept. 15 and 29, at 1 p.m. Sign up to play various games on the Senior Center front lawn. At this time, there will not be any access allowed into the building, so please plan accordingly. Registration is required, as well as masks. Call (203) 272-8286 to reserve a day and time.

Fall in Love with the ABCs and 123s of Medicare – Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. This Zoom seminar will put the basics of Medicare in the simplest of terms to help you navigate annual enrollment, which starts on Oct. 15. Call (203) 272-8286 or email lgravel@cheshirect.org to register.

The Cheshire Sherlock Holmes Society – Thursday, Sept. 17, at 1 p.m. Please read the novel “The Seven-Per-Cent Solution” by Nicholas Meyer for Zoom discussion. Also watch the interview “Lee Goldberg, Nicholas Meyer, and Leslie S. Klinger in Conversation / Open Book on Location” on YouTube for discussion at the meeting. Community Yoga Online for the Food Pantry – Friday, Sept. 18, at 1:15 p.m. Join Stefanie online via Zoom for Gentle Flow Yoga, with chair modifications available, to benefit the Cheshire Community Food Pantry.  The “cost” is a monetary donation made directly to the Cheshire Community Food Pantry. Lawn Bingo – Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. Enjoy an afternoon of live Bingo on the Senior Center front lawn. Registration is required. Space is limited for outdoor event social distancing. Each participant must bring their own chair and masks are required. There is no admittance to the building at this time, so please plan accordingly. Call (203) 272-8286 to register.

Verified Driver’s License Zoom Program – Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m. Learn what the Verified Driver’s License all about, when it will be required and steps on how to get one. This program is presented via Zoom by AAA. Call (203) 272-8286 or email lgravel@cheshirect.org to register.

Maintaining Lung Health During COVID-19 – Thursday, Sept. 24, at 10:30 a.m. Presented via Zoom by Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, this program will include an overview of COPD and other chronic lung conditions, tips to help during this pandemic, and a question-and-answer period. Ongoing Weekly Event:

Trail Walks

Now that the cooler weather is here,  join members of the local Senior Community for a walk on the Farmington Canal Linear Trail in Cheshire or the Quinnipiac Trail in South Meriden. Walking is a wonderful way for older adults to stay physically and mentally active. For more information, call Marge at (203) 272-3316.

 

Transportation

Transportation to out-of-town medical appointments is now available as follows:

Mondays – Meriden               

Tuesdays – North Haven and Hamden

Wednesdays – Wallingford   

Thursdays – New Haven

Fridays – Southington 

Requests are accepted for appointments between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call for ride within one week of appointment. 

Dial-A-Ride is available on Fridays for the Waterbury area.

The Center continues to offer transportation for Cheshire medical appointments, grocery shopping and pharmacy visits.
