Senior Center Programs


The Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave., is happy to announce that some indoor programming has started this month. During this transition to indoor programming, all are asked to be very diligent and to strongly adhere to all the CDC guidelines. Proper mask wearing, sanitizing, and social distancing will be strictly enforced for the health and safety of members and staff. Those who choose not to follow the CDC guidelines will be asked to leave the building. 

Registration is required for all programs. Staff will also be available for scheduled in-person appointments. Everyone will be prescreened and temperatures will be taken at the door.

Unfortunately, unregistered participants or “walk-ins” will not be allowed into the building at this time.

The Cheshire Sherlock Holmes Society – Thursday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. Please read the novel, “The Adventure of the Three Gables” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for discussion via Zoom.  Contact Andy Tranquilli at tranquilli@hotmail.com if you wish to attend. New members and guests are always welcome.  

The Boogie Boys – Friday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. An afternoon of musical entertainment will be provided by The Boogie Boys, outdoors on the front lawn (weather permitting, otherwise via Zoom). Lawn Games with Laura – Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. Sign up to play various games on the front lawn of the Senior Center, 240 Maple Ave. Registration is required — as well as masks. Call (203) 272-8286 to reserve a day and time

Community Yoga Online for the Food Pantry – Friday, Oct. 23, at 1:15 p.m. Join Stefanie online via Zoom for Gentle Flow Yoga, with chair modifications available, to benefit the Cheshire Community Food Pantry. Bingo – Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 1:30 pm. An afternoon of live Bingo, INDOORS. Registration is required. Space is limited for social distancing, and masks are required. Call (203) 272-8286 to register.

Friday Indoor Movie Matinee: ‘The Call of the Wild” – Friday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. Based on the novel by Jack London. Stars Harrison Ford. Buck, a St. Bernard/Scotch Collie dog, must fight tooth and claw for survival after being kidnapped from his comfortable home in California. He is forced to become a sled dog in the unforgiving wilderness of Yukon, Canada, during the 1890 Klondike Gold Rush. Rated PG; 1 hour, 40 minutes. Mental Health 101 – Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Presented via Zoom by Mental Health First Aid. Learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The course gives participants the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem, or experiencing a crisis. Weekly Trail Walks – Join members of the local senior community for walks on the Farmington Canal Trail in Cheshire or the Quinnipiac Trail in South Meriden. For more information, call Marge at (203) 272-3316.

Transportation Services – The Cheshire Senior Center continues to offer transportation for Cheshire medical appointments, grocery shopping and pharmacy visits, and to out-of-town medical appointments scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the following days:

Monday – Meriden

Tuesday – North Haven & Hamden

Wednesday – Wallingford

Thursday – New Haven

Friday – Southington 

Call for availability within one week of the appointment. 

Dial-A-Ride is available on Fridays for the Waterbury area.
