New Program! Mindful Functional Movement for Activities of Daily Living – Mondays from Jan. 25 to May 17, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. The Cheshire Senior Center and Yale University School of Medicine are pleased to be offering a new innovative virtual program for people age 55 and older. Mindful functional movement sequencing is a mind-body movement and breath-based exercise class tailored in performing the activities of daily living and helping older individuals maintain their independence. This class will create focused sequences and movements with breath components to strengthen muscles and improve endurance and body awareness in performing everyday tasks. Sequences will include getting up from the floor, mindful walking, balancing, and mindful breathing. Participants will be asked to complete a pre-activity survey and a final evaluation upon completion, which will be reviewed by the mindful movement instructor. This free 16-week program is being led by Ophelia Empleo-Frazier, MSN, GNP-BC, BSN, CDP, and is supported by the Connecticut Older Adult Collaboration for Health 4M (COACH 4M) project of Yale University School of Medicine, a Geriatric Workforce Enhancement program funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration and CARES ACT to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. Weekly Classes – Winter 2021
Registration has begun for the next session of weekly classes, which will be held online via Zoom. Classes are free for active members of the Cheshire Senior Center. The Winter session of classes begins on Monday, Jan. 11. There are several new classes and programs available. Please enroll prior to the beginning of the session and don’t delay in registering for a class that you are interested in. Unfortunately, classes with low enrollment will be canceled. Classes will run for 10 weeks unless otherwise noted, with no classes on Jan. 18, Feb. 12, or Feb. 22.
Mondays – Guided Meditation at 11 a.m. for 4 weeks; Creative Writing at 11 a.m. for 4 weeks, starts Feb. 22.
Tuesdays – Zumba Gold at 9:45 a.m.
Wednesdays – Pilates at 9:30 a.m.; Balance & Coordination at 10:30 a.m.; Get Fit with Brenda at 11:30 a.m.; Tai Chi for All Levels at 1 p.m.
Thursdays – Gentle Therapeutic Exercises at 12:15 p.m.
Fridays – Art & Painting at 10:30 a.m.

Weekly Trail Walks
Join local seniors for a walk on the Farmington Trail in Cheshire or the Quinnipiac Trail in South Meriden. Walking is a wonderful way for older adults to stay physically and mentally active. For more information, call Marge at (203) 272-3316.
Storm closings and delays will be announced on the Cheshire Senior Center Facebook page and on the local news channels. Typically, if school or buses are delayed, or if school is closed, Senior Center buses do not run.
The Cheshire Senior Center continues to offer transportation for Cheshire medical appointments, grocery shopping and pharmacy visits, and to out-of-town medical appointments scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the following schedule:
