Due to the uptick in Covid cases and recent guidelines set by the State of Connecticut, all indoor programs scheduled for the Cheshire Senior Center have been canceled until further notice.


Reflections Café: an Ongoing Series with the Cheshire Senior Center

Reflections Café is a virtual social gathering for place persons with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, early Alzheimer’s or other dementia along with their family and friends to share an hour of exploring positive topics such as cooking, art, music, poetry, movies, show & tell, and more. The group, led by Andrea Sidoruk, MSW intern, will meet on Mondays, Feb. 8, Feb. 22, March 8, and March 22, from 5 to 6 p.m. Make new friends, have fun and share stories, including any feelings about the challenges of living with memory loss, mild cognitive impairment, early Alzheimer’s or other dementia, from the comfort and safety of your own home or comfortable place. New! Mindful Functional Movement for Activities of Daily Living

The Cheshire Senior Center is offering a new innovative virtual program via Zoom for people 55 and older. Mindful functional movement sequencing is a mind-body class tailored to performing the activities of daily living and helping older individuals maintain their independence. This movement and breath-based exercise class meets via Zoom on Mondays from 1 to 1:45 p.m. through May 17. 

This class uses focused sequences and movements with breath components to strengthen muscles, and improve endurance and body awareness in performing everyday tasks. Sequences will include getting up from the floor, mindful walking, balancing, and mindful that will be reviewed by the mindful movement instructor.

Weekly Classes

Weekly classes, which are held online via Zoom, are free for active members of the Cheshire Senior Center. Be sure to register for a class prior to the start date; classes with low enrollment will be canceled. Classes will run for 10 weeks unless otherwise noted. No classes on Feb. 12 or Feb. 22.

Mondays – Guided Meditation at 11 a.m. for four weeks starting on Feb. 22.

Tuesdays – Zumba Gold at 9:45 a.m.

Wednesdays – Pilates at 9:30 a.m. Balance & Coordination at 10:30 a.m. Get Fit with Brenda at 11:30 a.m. Tai Chi for All Levels at 1 p.m.

Thursdays – Gentle Therapeutic Exercises at 12:15 p.m.

Friday – Art & Painting at 10:30 a.m.

Weekly Trail Walks

Join local seniors for a walk on the Farmington Trail in Cheshire or the Quinnipiac Trail in South Meriden. Walking is a wonderful way for older adults to stay physically and mentally active. For more information, call Marge at (203) 272-3316.

Graphoanalysis (Handwriting Analysis) Program 

Discover over 100 traits and characteristics found in the strokes of your cursive writing through Graphoanalysis, the scientific study of handwriting analysis. This 5-week Zoom program will run on Wednesdays from 1:15  to 3:15 p.m. from March 3–31, and will be facilitated by Pat Senich, Certified Graphoanalyst for over 55 years. Registration is required by Feb. 24. Space is limited. There is no charge, but participants are asked to commit to attending all five weeks. Transportation Services

Find storm closings and delays on the Cheshire Senior Center Facebook page and on local news channels. Typically, if school is delayed, our buses are delayed. If school is closed, our buses do not run.

The Cheshire Senior Center offers transportation to out-of-town medical appointments on the following schedule:

Monday – Meriden

Tuesday – North Haven & Hamden

Wednesday – Wallingford

Thursday – New Haven

Friday – Southington 

Ride requests are accepted for appointments scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call for availability within one week of appointment. 

Dial-A-Ride is available on Fridays for the Waterbury area.
