An Update From The Cheshire Senior Center

An Update From The Cheshire Senior Center

March 30, 2020

Dear Cheshire Senior Center Members,

First and foremost, we hope that you are all safe and healthy during this challenging time. As many of you are aware, due to COVID-19, the Senior Center staff is now working remotely and we are able to access our emails and voicemails. We are hoping that we will reopen, and that some of the activities and programs scheduled for April will still take place.

Presently, this is how things stand:

•Aging Mastery Program has been rescheduled for September. Those of you who had signed up for the March program will be contacted directly.

•Due to COVID-19, credit will be given for the missed winter session exercise classes. This credit can be used during the spring or summer session only.

•Class registration is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th, with classes beginning on Monday, May 18th. This will be a five-week-long class session. This modified schedule will allow for make-up classes, should the need exist.

•The Saturday Jaycees Bingo has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule at a later date.

•The Volunteer Luncheon has been cancelled. We hope to reschedule at a later date.

•The Resilient Living with Dementia Workshops have been cancelled. We hope to reschedule at a later date.

•Transportation service remains suspended at this time. The buses are being used to assist with Food Pantry deliveries. If you are experiencing any difficulty accessing food, please let us know.

•Updated resource lists are available. Please let us know if you are having any difficulty accessing prescriptions, medical services, emergency transportation, or any community-based resources and services.

•Both Connecticut and Federal Income Tax filing have been extended until July 15th, 2020. We are hoping that AARP will resume Tax Aide services. At this time, we have no updates from AARP regarding this service.

•We do have an active telephone reassurance list; please let us know if you would like to be added to this list.

•We have been posting updates and fun activities on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pg/Cheshire-Senior-Center-1436630379891005/posts/?ref=page_internal). We would love to see you engage in these activities and share some fun ideas and photos with us.

We have spent some time streamlining our robo-call list. We realize that this is less than ideal, but we will continue to use this system to update you. Also, for more updates, visit the Town of Cheshire website at www.cheshirect.org and click on the Senior Center page. We will also be posting updates on our Facebook page.

We miss you all and hope to see you very soon.
