Cheshire has had two students test positive for COVID-19, officials announced Tuesday.
Dodd Principal Mike Woods posted a statement on the Cheshire Education Facebook page informing families that a 7th grade student tested positive for the virus last weekend.
“I need to inform you that a Dodd student tested positive over this past weekend and the school was informed this morning," the statement reads. “Upon hearing this, our school nurse and I were in direct contact with Chesprocott Health Department and Dr. Solan while Mr. Perosino started contact tracing based on the information provided.”
According to Woods, the student did not attend school all last week, and a small group of students who it was determined spent less than 30 minutes of contact time with the individual were informed of the infection.
“We do not feel there is an extended exposure to the rest of the student population based on our contact trace investigation,” Woods wrote. “We will continue to monitor this carefully and closely in the coming days. As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions. I appreciate your understanding and recognizing the privacy of the students involved.”
In-person instruction has continued at Dodd over the last two days.
The second positive case is at Highland Elementary School, where a students also tested positive over the weekend.
“We are currently experiencing positive cases infiltrating our school systems, and working very carefully with principals, nurses, and superintendents help them make an informed decision based on cases and exposures,” Maura Esposito announced at the Oct. 13 Town Council meeting. “Over the weekend we learned that we did have a Highland Elementary School positive case in the classroom. That resulted in 20 students being quarantined, an additional eight from the bus, and one teacher. We also had a student test positive from Dodd Middle School. Only eight students from that are quarantined.”
The Cheshire Herald will continue to monitor this story and update with any new information as it becomes available.
