DURHAM – Alice M. Kalandyk, 86, of Durham, Conn., died Monday, April 19, 2021, at Middlesex Hospital.
She was born in Wallingford, daughter of the late Joaquin Fernandes and Mary (Silva) Fernandes. Prior to her retirement, Alice worked as an accountant for the Town of Wallingford.
Alice is survived by her loving children, Kim Thompson and her husband Mark Thompson of Ala.; Karen Kalandyk of Durham; Kelly Kalandyk Smith and her husband Timothy Smith of Mass.; Kathleen Purtill and her husband Jay Purtill of Cheshire; and John Kalandyk, Jr. of Ala. Besides her children, she is survived by her two brothers, Anthony Fernandes and Jack Fernandes; her sister, Evelyn Fernandes; and her eight grandchildren, Stevie Thompson, Darien Holli Strobel, Chase Thompson, Nicole Purtill, Natalie Purtill, Noelle Purtill, Jake Kalandyk and Brooke Smith. She was predeceased by her brother, Albert Fernandes.
Alice was a guiding light in her children and grandchildren’s lives and will be deeply missed. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family at her cottage on the Connecticut shore.
