TUCSON, AZ – Lewis Monroe Shook, 86, passed away in Tucson, Arizona, on March 20, 2021.
Born on December 1, 1934, in Waterbury, Conn., Lew resided in Cheshire, Conn., until his retirement.
Lew joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and, after completing his military service, he was employed as an officer for the Connecticut State Police for more than 20 years. Upon retirement in his early 50’s, Lewis decided to travel the country on a newly purchased motorcycle. It was on that trip that he discovered a liking for the landscape and climate of Arizona, which soon became his home state for the last 32 years. Lew enjoyed traveling, hiking, bowling, and target shooting, as well as the company of the many friends that he had made as an active member of his local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Lew was the late son of George Elmore Shook and Ruth Gladys Greene Curtis and was predeceased by his brothers, Winthrop Shook and Glen Shook, and his beloved dog, Tex. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Christoff of Cheshire, Conn., as well as his four children, Marianne Poskus and her husband Douglas Poskus of Waterbury, Conn., Beverly O’Brien of Waterbury, Conn.; Michael Shook and his wife Wendi Shook of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Glenn Shook of Waterbury, Conn.; and his former wife and mother of his children, Marianne Shook of Waterbury, Conn. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews with whom he maintained several special bonds.
Due to Covid, there will be a private memorial gathering with the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society.
