HAINES CITY, FLA. – Mary V. (Vera) Krause (née Heffernan), 84, of Haines City, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2021, at Palm Garden Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winter Haven, Florida.

Vera was born in Dublin, Ireland, on April 5, 1937, the daughter of Margaret (Nan) and Michael Heffernan. She grew up in Inchicore, Dublin, where she attended school at the Goldenbridge School. Later, Vera emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 27 and lived with her husband and her two children for over 30 years in Cheshire, Connecticut, before moving to Florida, in 2003. Over her life, she worked in various careers, including as a bookkeeper, waitress, factory assembler and in payroll administration.

Vera was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed caring and providing for others. She loved to travel, play bingo and spend time with her extended family. In her younger years, Vera also enjoyed playing tennis, bowling and knitting. Vera enjoyed her later retirement years residing in Lake Hammock Retirement Village in Haines City, Florida. Vera was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City, Florida, and, before that, St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Cheshire, Connecticut.

Vera will be greatly missed by her loving family, including her husband, Eugene Krause; her daughter, Susan Krause; and her son, Gene Krause; her grandchildren, Shelby Krause and Zachary Krause; her sister Maura Cullen and her brother Brendan Heffernan; and her many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Vera was predeceased in life by her beloved parents, Nan and Michael; her sisters, Colette Sheridan and Teresa Kane; and her brothers, Michael (Mick) Heffernan and Edward (Eddie) Heffernan.

A Catholic funeral mass was held on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City, Florida. A memorial and graveside service will be held at a later date in Cheshire, Connecticut.
