Brown Sprints To First Regional Track Title, Lanz Hurdles On Big Stage, Junior Golfers Excel In States

On Saturday, Cheshire High School boys’ track and field junior quad-captain Colin Brown earned a milestone in the New England Interscholastic Championship at New Britain’s Willow Brook Park. Seeded sixth in the 100-meters, Brown moved up to claim his first regional crown in 10.85 seconds.

For the prelims, he placed second (10.94) by .01 behind Andrew Farr of Gorham, Maine. In returning to win in the finals, Brown became the Cheshire program’s first regional champion since Jake Scinto won the long jump and high jump in 2012.

After earning first place in the 100-meters, Brown clocked a best time (22.04) to finish third the 200-meters.

For Cheshire girls, sophomore Squirrel Lanz earned 10th in the 300-meter hurdles (46.99). This year, she set a new CHS record (46.77) in that event.

Because of the pandemic, Saturday represented the first New England outdoor meet since 2019.
