CHS Basketball Teams Fall In Monday's Divisional Action

On Monday, Cheshire High School girls’ basketball (2-6, 0-2 in Quinnipiac Division) came up short for the fifth straight game, falling 51-29 to Daniel Hand (7-2, 2-0). Cheshire came out fast, building a 9-2 lead in the first quarter. 

Coming off the bench, senior Emma Watkinson scored on a runner and a three-pointer in the early run. Senior co-captain Ari Perlini and Rylee Post added baskets.

CHS took a 13-9 lead on a layup by junior Ella Watson, but Hand responded with a 16-0 surge that continued into the second quarter.

The Rams had good looks in the second, but were unable to convert until Watkinson hit her second three-pointer late in the quarter. Watkinson tallied 10 of her team-high 12 points in the first half.

Hand led 25-16 at halftime and didn’t allow the Rams to get closer than nine points from there. Senior Sara Wohlgemuth led the Tigers with 13 points.

For Cheshire, junior Kaylee Clark netted a three-pointer among her five points. Watson contributed four points and Post scored three. Sophomore Tess Givens joined Perlini with two points. Sophomore Grace Lurz also made a free throw in the fourth quarter.

Cheshire returns to action on Wednesday, visiting Milford to play Lauralton Hall (0-9) at 6:15 p.m.

Boys’ Basketball (1-5, 0-2 in Oronoque Division)

CHS dropped their fourth consecutive game, 59-53, at North Haven (6-2, 1-1). The Indians outscored the Rams, 22-10, in the second quarter to build a 36-20 lead. Cheshire rallied to outscore the home team, 21-14, in the fourth, but their rally came up short.

For CHS, senior tri-captain Shaan Vatti tallied all of his nine points in the fourth, going four for four on free throws and adding a three-pointer.

Junior Cole Feinauer and sophomore Ben Wable both led the Rams with 13 points, including a three-pointer. Feinauer scored eight points in the opening quarter.

Senior tri-captain Colby Griffin recorded nine points, making two three-pointers in the second half. Junior Yasha Laskin hit a three-pointer. Seniors Jack Hickey and Dylan Fohl and junior Sincere Myers all had two points.

On Wednesday, the Rams visit Masuk (6-1) to play at 7 p.m.
