On Wednesday, Cheshire High School girls’ golf (8-2) pulled out a 189-190 victory over St. Paul Catholic (8-2) at Southington Country Club. Junior Sydney Hidalgo shot a 41 to finish as medalist, while sophomore Sophia DelRosso shot a 45.
Senior Mackenzie Corcoran posted a 50 and freshman Olivia Beach tallied a 53. Senior co-captain Rileigh Erickson contributed a 57 and sophomore Sabrina DiRubba earned a 60.
On Thursday at SCC, CHS faces Berlin (7-1) at 3 p.m.
For the second time this year, the Rams lost to Notre Dame-West Haven (8-8). This time, CHS fell 10-0 at the end of five innings.
The Green Knights scored twice in the third inning. ND-WH put up a run in the fourth and then used a seven-run fifth inning to earn the win by the mercy rule.
For CHS, junior pitcher Ben Strout allowed three hits and two walks. He also recorded two strikeouts in four innings.
Sophomores Max Bernstein (three hits, four walks) and Aiden Erickson (strikeout) pitched in relief. Erickson’s appearance represented his varsity debut.
ND-WH junior pitcher Nicholas Hunkele only gave up singles to senior co-captain Luca Raccio and junior Ryan Barbieri.
On Thursday, Cheshire hosts Shelton (9-6) at 4 p.m. The Gaels posted a 5-1 victory in the first meeting on April 26.
Boys’ Volleyball (13-3)
The Rams came back to win 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-20) at Shelton (9-5). Senior tri-captain Tim Nugent compiled 35 assists, five kills, three aces, and three digs.
Sophomore Will Allen recorded 11 kills and 10 digs (career high). Senior Gianluca Giardina finished with 10 kills, while classmate Jake Miller garnered seven kills and two digs.
Junior Jason Cafourek added six kills and four digs.
On May 17, CHS returns to host Simsbury (8-8) at 6 p.m.
Boys’ Tennis (6-6)
At Wesleyan University in Middletown, Cheshire beat host Xavier (4-10), 4-3, for the second time this spring. Senior captain Utsav Subramani (6-0, 6-0), junior Andrew Gershfeld (6-3, 6-2), senior Tyler Tan (6-0, 6-4), and freshman Finn Hickey (6-0, 2-6, 6-4) earned a singles sweep.
Subramani extended his unbeaten season.
On Thursday, the Rams play Notre Dame-West Haven at 3:45 p.m.
Girls’ Tennis (6-5)
The Rams saw their six-match win streak come to an end in a 5-2 loss to Daniel Hand (7-4). Freshman Alex Orlins earned a 6-0, 6-4 win to stay unbeaten (10-0) at number one singles.
Classmate Eva Curran posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the fourth position.
On Friday, Cheshire heads to Eisenhower Park to meet host Lauralton Hall (6-6) at 3:45 p.m. On April 11, the Crusaders posted a 4-3 victory at CHS.

Cheshire pits their three-match win streak against Hamden (2-9) at SCC. Start time is 2:15 p.m.
In the April 18 opener at Laurel View Country Club, CHS picked up a 162-191 victory over the Green Dragons.
Riding a three-game win streak, CHS faces Lyman Hall (2-13) at 4:15 p.m. In the first meeting on April 18, Cheshire won 13-1 in Wallingford.
Boys’ Lacrosse (10-2)
Winners of three straight games, the Rams host Lyman Hall (6-7) at 6 p.m.
