CHS Girls' Soccer, Volleyball, And Swim Teams Sweep On Monday

On Monday, Cheshire High School girls’ soccer improved to 3-0-1 with a 6-0 win over Wilbur Cross (0-3). The Rams used a deep bench to build a 4-0 advantage at halftime.

In the opening half, sophomore Carly Commune picked up her first hat trick. She put in first two goals within six minutes. Junior Theresa Zurolo assisted on the opening goal.

Junior Olivia Beach also netted her first goal, converting on a feed from senior Sophia DelRosso.

In her varsity debut, freshman Shannon Gordon contributed her first two goals in the second half. She converted off a corner kick by freshman Charlotte Dziura and then scored on a pass from senior Caitlin Dolan.

Beach, Gordon, DelRosso, and Dolan registered their first points. Senior goalkeeper Sophi Bates didn’t face a shot in earning her second shutout of the season.

On Thursday, Cheshire plays Foran (1-1) at 6 p.m.

Girls’ Volleyball (4-0)

The Rams extended their perfect start with a 3-0 sweep (25-6, 25-6, 25-12) of East Haven (1-4). Senior co-captain Mary Nugent tallied nine assists, while junior Kaelyn Fitzgerald posted three assists, two kills, and a block.

Senior Emma Danaher recorded four kills and two aces. Senior Olivia Scotti served three aces.

On Wednesday, the Rams host unbeaten Fairfield Warde (4-0) at 6:30 p.m.

Girls’ Swim (2-0)

CHS posted their second road win, 101-77, over host Lyman Hall (2-1) at Sheehan. Senior tri-captain Julia Barto individually captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.51) and 500-yard freestyle (5:14.49).

Junior Natalia Gajecki was an individual winner in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.39) and 100-yard backstroke (1:02.27). Barto and Gajecki joined with senior Kelsey Stern and sophomore Vanessa Anderson on the winning 200-yard medley relay (2:00.74).

Senior tri-captain Grace Hanke (200-yard freestyle, 2:07.05) and junior Carly Cahill (50-yard freestyle, 27.04) added individual victories. Freshmen Courtney Gutmann and Annie Superchi, Anderson, and junior Alicia Shatalov were victorious in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:50.16).

To end the meet, senior tri-captain Sella Cahill, Carly Cahill, and juniors Helen Baxter and Julia Tejeda teamed to take the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.71).

For the home opener on Sept. 26, CHS welcomes Guilford to the Cheshire Community Pool. Start time is 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s varsity schedule:

Cross Country (Boys, 3-0; Girls, 3-0)

CHS teams visit Branford Supply Pond to compete against Branford, Hamden, and Hillhouse. Races start at 3:30 p.m.

Field Hockey (1-0)

Cheshire faces undefeated Branford (3-0) at 4 p.m.

Boys’ Soccer (1-0)

The Rams travel to New Haven’s Bowen Field to compete against host Career/Hillhouse Co-Op (1-0) at 6 p.m.
