CHS Girls' Swim And Dive Extends Win Streak On Friday, Rams' Boys' Soccer And Girls' V-Ball Teams Get Road Wins

On Friday, Cheshire High School boys’ soccer (9-1-1, 5-0-1 in Housatonic Division) earned their third straight shutout, 3-0, over North Haven (1-6-4, 0-3-3) at North Haven Middle School. CHS put in three first-half goals en route to sweeping the regular-season series with the Indians.

With 12:05 left in the first half, freshman Colin Brown netted the opening goal. Junior Nathan Houle picked up his first assist and point on the play. 

With 5:52 remaining in the first half, senior Chris Likorama buried the second goal on a touch pass from senior Denys Fuentes.

CHS added the last goal with 1:34 left in the half. After being taken down on a run, senior co-captain Jack Loura scored on a free kick. Junior goalkeeper Matt Pisani tallied two saves, including a point-blank leg deflection with 23:03 left in the first half, and secured his sixth shutout of the year.

On Monday, Cheshire travels to Bittner Park for a rematch with host Guilford (7-1-4) at 6 p.m. On Sept. 26, CHS posted a 1-0 shutout of the Indians.

Girls’ Swim and Dive (10-0)

On Friday at the Cheshire Community Pool, Cheshire (10-0) beat Daniel Hand 95-84 to extend their consecutive dual-meet win streak to 65. Freshman Avery Potyrala had the top time in three events, including the 100-yard freestyle (55.77). Potyrala teamed with seniors Julia Stevens and Lavana Gulati and junior Nora Bergstrom to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:45.07). In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Potyrala joined with junior Ava Breton, senior Mihiri Fernando, and senior co-captain Sarah Chen to hit the wall first in 3:56.98.

Stevens (200-yard freestyle, 1:56.70), freshman Julia Tyler (200-yard individual medley, 2:19.07), junior Natalie DeMatteo (one-meter dive, 230.48), Bergstrom (500-yard freestyle, 5:16.22), Breton (100-yard backstroke, 1:02.52), and junior Bella Tejeda (100-yard breaststroke, 1:13.49) added individual victories. Senior co-captain Jillian Stevens, junior Mary Barto, Tyler, and Chen opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.48).

Next Tuesday, Cheshire hosts Lauralton Hall at 7 p.m.

Girls’ Volleyball (11-2, 6-0 in Hammonset Division)

CHS beat host North Haven (6-8, 2-4) 3-0 for the second time to sweep the regular-season series. Check back for game scores and stats.

On Monday, the Rams seek redemption in hosting unbeaten Guilford (15-0) at 6:30 p.m. On Oct. 1, Guilford earned a 3-0 home sweep to snap Cheshire’s 45-match regular-season win streak.
