CJF Sixth Grade Places Second In Bowl Championship, Fifth And Eighth Grades Play For SYFC Crowns On Sunday

Cheshire Junior Football has kicked off the final weekend of the season. In the Bowl Championship Series title game on Saturday, sixth grade (5-6) came up just short of a crown, falling 12-6 to Bristol at Clem Lemire Field in Newington.

On Sunday, Cheshire High School hosts the Shoreline Youth Football Conference finals. CJF fifth grade (second seed, 9-1) faces top-seeded Southington at 11 a.m.

Playing Guilford (second seed) in the finale at 5 p.m., CJF eighth grade (top seed, 10-0) aims to become the first squad to win five championships in a row.

All five games will be broadcast live at www.sportingnewsct.com. Other title games are listed below.

Third/Fourth Grade

Southington (second seed) vs. Branford (sixth seed), 9 a.m.

Sixth Grade

Shelton (top seed) vs. Wallingford (second seed), 1 p.m.

Seventh Grade

Monroe (top seed) vs. Glastonbury (second seed), 3 p.m.

Last Sunday, CJF picked up three semifinal victories. At CHS, eighth grade beat Branford 40-6 and fifth grade won 47-19 over Madison. In road action, sixth grade earned a 24-6 victory over Guilford.

Also on the road, seventh grade (7-3) fell 28-24 to Glastonbury and third/fourth grade (6-3-1) lost 19-0 to Southington.
