Cheshire Girls' Lacrosse Ends The Season On Friday At Darien

In the Class L quarterfinals on Friday, Cheshire High School girls’ lacrosse (12th seed, 12-6) fell 15-4 at Darien (fourth seed, 16-3). The Blue Wave netted the opening six goals and led 8-1 at halftime.

CHS jumped on the scoreboard when sophomore Ava Matikowski found classmate Ava Harris for a goal with 7:07 left in the opening half.

The Rams added three more goals in the second stanza. Sophomore Lauren Samela scored on a pass from junior Tori Santi and Matikowski fed sophomore Sophia Surato for the third goal.

To cap the scoring with 22 seconds remaining, Matikowski netted a free-position shot. In being under pressure for the majority of the game, sophomore goalkeeper Audrey Bronson compiled nine saves.

Sophomore Chloe Humphrey led Darien with four goals and four assists. Sophomore Ryan Hapgood and junior Molly McGuckin tallied four and three goals, respectively, while junior Ceci Stein posted four assists and an assist in a balanced lineup.

Junior goalkeeper Shea Dolce earned two saves.

The Rams played without their senior class. Due to a schedule conflict with the prom happening on Friday, tri-captains Raegan Bailey, Sophia Kuhlthau, and Taylor Warburton, as well as Hailey Beling and Sophia Vaill, didn’t make the trip.

Saturday’s varsity schedule:

Boys’ Lacrosse (fourth seed, 14-4)

The Rams host Wilton (fifth seed, 14-4) in a Class L quarterfinal at 5 p.m.

Boys’ Volleyball (third seed, 16-2)

For this Class M quarterfinal, Cheshire pits their 15-match win streak against Simsbury (11th seed, 9-11) at 6 p.m.
