After dropping their first match, 3-2, on Tuesday at Shelton, Cheshire High School girls’ volleyball (4-1) responded with a 3-1 victory (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-15) on Thursday at Fairfield Warde (3-2).
The Rams jumped out to a 8-1 lead to start the match and proceeded to win the first set.
Fairfield built a 17-12 lead in game two. Cheshire rode a 7-0 run to the lead, but the Mustangs rallied to win the set and tie the match.
Momentum shifted back to CHS in game three. With the score tied at 19-19, sophomore Eva Catalanotto served on a 4-0 surge that put the Rams ahead to stay.
Cheshire carried their energy into the fourth set. Catalanotto and senior tri-captain Lizzie Braun provided service on runs that pushed Cheshire’s lead to 11-4. The Rams extended their advantage to 20-7 and they went on to clinch the match on the 22nd kill by senior tri-captain Avery Mola.
Along with tying her career-high kill total, Mola tallied three aces and three digs. Classmate Alex Lucas compiled a personal-best 10 kills, adding four digs and two aces.
At setter, senior Mimi Perlini earned 38 assists (career high), two aces, and two digs. Catalanotto set a personal-high in aces (six) and also picked up five kills and three blocks.
On defense, senior Lauren Samela recorded a personal-high dig total with nine.
On Friday, the Rams head to Wallingford to face Sheehan (3-4) at 5:30 p.m.
