After nine days away from action, Cheshire High School cross country teams returned to action in Saturday’s Wilton Invite at Allens Meadows Park. CHS girls placed sixth overall (223) and took third in the Large School Division.
Junior Alexa Ciccone finished fourth (14:57). Junior Mia Vientos (32nd, 16:28), freshmen Emily D’Souza (34th, 16:36) and Ava Ciccone (82nd, 17:53), sophomore Eva Curran (91st, 18:08), and juniors Abby Cortigiano (105th, 18:40) and Katie Hall (126th, 19:26) followed for the varsity squad.
For boys’ varsity, the Rams finished eighth (230) on the day and sixth in the Large School Division. Junior Tyler Caron led CHS in 28th place (17:27.9). Senior tri-captain Colin Grevelding (43rd, 17:51.3), junior Daniel D’Souza (50th, 18:06.1), sophomore James Boyd (64th, 18:21.5), senior tri-captain Mike DeJoseph (80th, 18:40.6), and juniors Jack Lengyel (90th, 18:53.9) and Brian Krzanowski (98th, 19:10.2) rounded out the squad.
On Tuesday, Cheshire teams travel to Madison’s Surf Club to face Daniel Hand (host), Career Magnet, and Hamden. Races begin at 4 p.m.
Boys’ Soccer (2-1)
The Rams built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-0 victory over North Haven (0-3).
Just 2:50 into the contest, Cheshire struck first on a corner kick. After a boot by senior quad-captain Samir Dishnica, senior quad-captain Colin Brown jumped up to net a header at the left post.
Junior Will Stearns and Dishnica put in goals to extend the lead in the first half. Following the break, Dishnica converted twice to tie his personal-best goal total with three.
Brown and senior quad-captain Kevi Sulollari assisted on Dishnica’s goals in the second half.
CHS worked together to limit shots in front of senior goalkeeper John Tarca, who made one save in earning his first shutout.
On Tuesday, CHS visits Branford (2-1) to compete at 6:30 p.m.
