On Saturday, Cheshire High School girls’ tennis teams came up short in the Southern Connecticut Conference quarterfinals. CHS girls (sixth seed, 8-9) fell just short in a 4-3 loss at North Haven (third seed, 13-5).
Freshmen Alex Orlins (6-1, 6-0) and Eva Curran (6-0, 6-0) dropped just one game total in singles. Orlins remained undefeated in the number one spot.
Junior Lila Watkinson and sophomore Riley Baldoni won 7-5, 6-2 at number one doubles. Juniors Asya Tarabar, Julia Hummel and Rachel Goldstein, and senior captain Cayla Dolan and sophomore Arya Desai battled in three-set match losses.
NH won the season series at 2-1.
In their quarterfinal in Woodbridge, Cheshire boys (sixth seed, 8-10) fell 5-2 at Amity (third seed, 14-4). Senior captain Utsav Subramani swept all games to stay unbeaten at number one singles, while junior Andrew Gershfeld picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the second spot.
Amity went 3-0 against the Rams this year.
For states, CHS girls (Class LL) and boys (Class L) will start on May 27. Brackets have yet to be released.
