On Wednesday, Cheshire High School girls’ volleyball picked up their second 3-1 victory of the season. This time, the Rams (2-0) won by scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, and 25-10 at previously unbeaten North Haven (2-1).
Senior tri-captain Avery Mola led CHS with 21 kills, six digs, two aces, and a block. Sophomore Eva Catalanotto posted seven kills, two blocks, two digs, and an ace, while senior tri-captain Sophia Surato tallied 22 assists (career high), three aces, and two digs.
Momentum shifted in the first set, but CHS closed on a 4-0 spurt and clinched the game on a kill by senior tri-captain Lizzie Braun.
The Nighthawks rallied in game two, building a 19-12 lead. CHS cut the deficit to 23-19, but NH held on to tie the contest.
Cheshire responded in game three. With the score tied at 21-21, CHS won four of the final five points to take the frame.
In that run, Catalanotto recorded both of her blocks, the second of which came on set point.
CHS carried their momentum into game four, jumping out to a 11-3 advantage. The Rams won the contest on a missed serve by NH.
In a birthday match, senior Mimi Perlini compiled eight assists and three aces. Junior Lucero Rullan-Irizarry contributed two digs, two kills, and an assist.
Senior Lila Watkinson (assist) and Braun both finished with with three kills and a dig.
CHS returns to action on Thursday, hosting Bristol Central (1-1) at 6:30 p.m.
