On Saturday, Cheshire High School cross country teams opened the 2019 season in the 41st Haddad-Windham Invite. In varsity 1 races, Cheshire boys placed seventh (206 points) and Cheshire girls took ninth (245).
On the boys’ side, senior tri-captain Brendan Mellitt came in fifth overall in 16:08. Senior Francis Simpatico (43rd, 17:45) and junior Ryan Farrell (46th, 17:51) also made the top 50.
Senior tri-captain Charlie Pettit (59th, 18:11), sophomore Robert DiNatale (61st, 18:17), senior Owen Fiore (63rd, 18:20), and freshman Colin Grevelding (78th, 18:50) also scored for CHS.
For girls, sophomores Meghan Georgescu (27th, 21:58) and Olivia Ferraro (34th, 22:36) led Cheshire. Senior tri-captain Kristina Benga (48th, 23:30), junior Cate Bedard (60th, 24:12), senior tri-captain Audrey Kiesling (79th, 24:49), junior Brooke Daddio (88th, 25:06), and sophomore Maria Fiore (112th, 25:59) completed the team’s top-seven group. Senior Brie Collins also represented Cheshire varsity girls, taking 116th place in 26:13.
On Tuesday at 4 p.m., the Rams return to action for their dual-meet openers at Cheshire Park. Cheshire girls face Lyman Hall, Mercy, and West Haven. CHS boys also run against Lyman Hall and West Haven, as well as Xavier.
