On Thursday, Cheshire High School girls’ soccer won 2-0 at Branford (3-2) and extended their perfect start to 5-0 this fall.
CHS struck first with 37 seconds left in the first half. Freshman Abby Sink had a shot swatted out of bounds by the goalkeeper, but the Rams received a corner kick.
On a boot by senior tri-captain Helene Lopez, the ball was deflected to junior Ally Corris, who made a touch pass to Sink for an open shot into the left side of the net.
Corris picked up her first point.
The Rams extended the lead with 12:17 remaining. After a pass from Sink, senior Haley Shaw took a shot and the ball went through the goalkeeper into the net.
Sink joined Corris in earning her first assist.
The Hornets increased their pressure in the second half, but junior goalkeeper Sophie Bates and the Cheshire defense worked together to get the team’s fourth shutout in five games. Bates finished with eight saves.
