Editor, The Cheshire Herald:
In 2018 I voted to send Jahana Hayes to Washington as our Representative from the 5th Congressional District. I believed that both Connecticut and Congress would benefit from having someone with real-world personal and professional experience, from outside of the professional political class, bring their fresh perspective to the challenges facing our state and our nation.
In the past two years she has demonstrated the same qualities in Congress that made her a successful educator and a National Teacher of the Year. She has a positive, can-do attitude combined with a thoughtful, pragmatic approach towards finding inclusive solutions that deal with the concerns and challenges of the people whom she represents. She brings the same compassion and dedication that enabled her students to be their best and achieve their goals to helping her constituents in the 5th Congressional District navigate a wide range of issues.
As a Navy veteran and a senior citizen, I especially appreciate her work on veterans’ issues and health care access.
In her new role as a citizen-politician over the past two years, Jahana Hayes has earned our respect. I strongly support re-electing her to Congress on November 3.
